This is one of those adventures ala Indiana Jones or Allan Quatermain that offers up preposterous adventures that are loads of fun. The reader must abandon all logic to truly enjoy this exploration of ancient sites and their “made up historyâ€. The hero of the piece is Jack West, an Aussie commando who, with his team , is confronted by “baddies†at every turn and must succeed in their quest in order to save the world from the total ruthless domination that will occur if the Capstone pieces created by Alexander the Great falls into the wrong hands. With everyone from devious Catholic Priests to callous Special Ops personnel to a legion of Guantanamo Bay marines trying to stop Jack and his guys this read is a non- stop extravaganza of “kicking ass and taking namesâ€.Should they decide to bring SEVEN DEADLY WONDERS to the screen Harrison Ford would be a little too long in the tooth to take on the part of Jack West but Chris Pine might be up to the challenge.
I love books by Matthew Reilly. This is the second time I have read this book and it was just as good this time as the first, maybe even better because I was able to see things I missed before. I'm a big fan of action fiction and Matthew Reilly never disappoints. I'm off to read the next book in the series -- again. I recommend the Scarecrow books as well.
This is a fun action adventure novel in the vein of an Indiana Jones movie, coupled with the cheese of the old Batman TV show. Don't go in expecting high class, deeply developed characters and plot. Just enjoy the ride, because it's LOTS OF FUN!
I love this book. I have read it a couple of times, and each time, it is a fun read.This book is about a small team of 10 taking on two major powers.The prospect of destruction of earth, 7 ancient wonders, climax at the top of the Giza pyramid. This book had it all.
Great story for anyone who is a fan of Indian Jones or Clive Cussler type books. I could have done without some of the language peppered in here and there but all in all it is a great book. I can't wait to finish the rest of the series and see what else Matthew Reilly comes up with!
A little fun. I like stressful situations, narrow escapes, and unique equipment. However, this book goes from one narrow unbelievable escape to another. It got to be a little too much. And some of the weapons/equipment were stretching things more than necessary. In addition, having Americans for bad guys was not attractive for me.
A great read, a great cast of characters. The only negative, but a positive, is that you will have to read the rest of the Jack West books because they are addictive.
Matthew's books are the literary equivalent of a big budget Michael Bay movie. But even that comparison isn't fair. This book is way better, the locations and action scenes are bigger and more intense and You actually care about the characters!
