As per usual for Lonely Planet, this is a unique, informative book. The format is similar to DK books and it consists of colorful, glossy pages that would keep any older child's attention. My daughter will be going to Paris in the Spring and I've tried to find travel books that she can read ahead of time. Books written for adults are very detailed and can be overwhelming. Kid-friendly books about the city are often limited only to books about its history, not current travel information. This book has interesting information, but in small amounts at a time, with attractive graphics.
(This is a kid's review) This book is anything but boring. There were so many fun tidbits and interesting history connections all throughout the book! It was great to know that there is much, much more to Paris than just the Eiffel Tower! This book was extremely clever and introduced lots of fascinating facts. I never knew about most of the topics it covered! It would be a good research book for Paris history, but it was also a fun read. It really inspired me to learn more about the exciting places in the world. "Paris: Everything You Ever Wanted to Know" is one book I highly recommend for all those travelers out there!
I got this for my 9 year old son for our recent trip to Paris. It had fantastic facts about Paris that he loved! It was humorous but factual.....adding some gross "kid" facts and jokes that he adored. What don't you want to know about the catacombs and underground sewers of Paris anyway?! It was great.....and it offered a wonderful way for him to get excited about some of the things he would see on his first trip to this wonderful city.
Cute. Maybe a little over the head of our 8 year old, but she had a passing interest in it. A stronger reader or older reader would likely enjoy it more. I personally poured over it and found it adorable, but, at 30+, I'm slightly out of the age demographic...
I gave this book to an eleven year old as a gift before she went to Paris with her grandmother. It kept her entertained for the entire flight and she discovered things she wanted to do like ice skating on the Eiffel Tower.
I purchased this (and its London version) for my 10 year olds as we prepared for a trip to Europe. They devoured the book, were able to tell me many interesting facts they gleaned and were excited about a trip as a result. This is the type of book they pick up again and again. Great purchase.
I am a huge fan of this series. My 7 year old daughter led us through Paris with this book, and she ended up loving the Louvre and the Orsay because of this book! Hooray for a popular education tool to teach art history! Our trip to Paris was a smashing success and this book was a major factor.
Nobody tells you that you will have hours of waiting in line! With this book, the whole family learned about each site and looked forward to getting inside. Great as a gift for families planning a trip to Paris
