Be aware that the print quality of this Classic Reprint Series version is awful. The typeface varies widely from faded to bold, and footnotes are sometimes nearly illegible due to the poor quality of the reproduced print. Stay away from this version, and by a better version with good quality printing.

Xenophon provides the reader with insight to how war was conducted during his time in history. The brutality of facing man with sword and shield. But it also provides superb lessons in leadership. It also gives insight to cultural and moral beliefs of the times which even resonate today in much of the Middle East. Xenophon gives the reader his views on dealing with men in harsh situations and who to handle situations that were part of the culture which he did not believe in while attempting to get his men home from a lost war. Any man or woman who desires to lead should read this book. And as a writer of pulp military fiction, I find it has helped develop story situations and answers to those situations as it did while I was serving as a Non-Commissioned Officer for over twenty years.
This is the book that Alexander the Great read and that inspired him and his father to conquer the Persian Empire. Many of his innovations regarding warfare came from this book, like how to handle scythe chariots, how to cross rivers, that speed during marching is essential and will completely negate the power of the Persian Empire, and the discovery that the persian infrantry is numerous but completely useless. It is an amazing look at the world at that time period.
Awesome to read such a lucid account of an event 2400 years ago!
The content is very informative but the quality of the print makes it very difficult to read. I've put it down many times in frustration with the puzzle-like broken print. There's really no need for that.
