NOTE: This is for the paperback version.I thought the "planning" part would include things like creating a good title, how to advertise your webinar etc. It doesn't but that's no big deal.The book is concerned with successfully running your webinar itself. The author does a great job at this. I bought it mainly as a sanity check for my first webinar in a month's time. I did already know much of it but there are some useful nuggets of information. I read all 61 pages in about two hours.For content, I highly recommend it. I would give 4 stars...But the physical book itself is appalling. The font size is the smallest I've ever seen. I've attached a photo with a penny included for scale. It was hard for me to read. The graphic is impossible to read yet is supposed to provide valuable information. I rarely highlight books but I did this one. That was almost a mistake. The ink smudges. Really.The pages are half letter size. Either a larger font should be used (meaning more pages) or a larger page size.Because of the terrible quality of the physical book, I have to take two stars away.
Again, full disclosure: I know Bette, and I’ve worked with Bette on many occasions. My first experience with Bette was in a workshop in which she immediately captured the full attention of all of us in the room and kept our attention throughout the 90 minutes. That’s a top notch trainer. In this succinct book, Bette tells you how to obtain the same results in a virtual setting by outlining steps for thorough preparation, guidelines for effective slides and interaction with the audience, and how to work with technology so it doesn’t get in your way but enhances your ability to be just as personal in a typically impersonal setting as you are when teaching face to face. Her tips for getting started are based on her own experience in learning how to be a master at giving webinars, and her checklists are invaluable.
First, full disclosure: I know Bette and was involved in the editing of this book, so I’m decidedly biased. However, I can honestly say that when you read the book, you’ll get the wit and wisdom of a master stand-up trainer who also happens to give great webinars. The first time I experienced Bette’s presentation skills was at a live workshop she gave on information design. It wasn’t even my workshop of choice (the one I wanted was full), yet Bette made it so interesting! Keeping things engaging is what this book’s about, whether your approach is more high-tech or low-tech—and Bette shows how both can work in a webinar environment. Those new to webinars and nervous about learning how to run them will appreciate her sense of humor and humility (make sure to catch the bit about her cell phone). Throughout the book, Bette offers tips for staying motivated, continuing to learn and—this last one is classic Bette—making sure to have fun!
This powerful and poignant handbook gets right to the point. From its simple layout to the handy reference checklists, this book has it all—and in a simple to follow format. With practical tips, nuggets of wisdom, and just enough humor, Dr. Frick clearly outlines the process for creating and delivering outstanding training webinars for training professionals, and even beginners! Definitely an essential tool for my toolbox.
I love the layout, ease of use, down to earth directions, and that it covers what a person needs to do to go from being a stand-up trainer to being a webinar trainer. It gave me the confidence I needed to give it a shot!
Perfect book for step by step instructions on how to plan and host a successful webinar. I love that this is a very practical book with excellent tips laid out in a simple to use and understand format. Bette Frick is a master trainer and knows this topic better than anyone! Bravo on a great resource that I have used already for my most recent webinar!
