Dark Horse is one of my favorite publishers for comics and and art. To really make this a winner, I hope Dark Horse does a series of war stories and have Garth Ennis write! Oh, wait he does have a series called Battlefields. Back on topic, the Art of Battlefield V is outstanding and detailed with insight into the conceptual art.The detail is rich and incorporates much of the scenes we have seen through out the series. The cover is stunning with the female German soldier all dirty and tired looking. There is a lot of emotion in the work.
I originally bought this book because the aesthetics of women in period uniform are totally one of my jams (especially as a Valkyria Chronicles fan), so I decided to pick it up. But to my surprise, the real show stoppers are the collections of cinematic sequence storyboards that they included! Whoever their storyboard artist is clearly has a comics background of some kind with the display of blackspots and economic linework.Don't get me wrong, I adore the concept art paintings that set the tone for the aesthetic of the game's visuals, too, but I feel like those are expected in a high-budget hyper-realistic cinematic-leaning game art book like the Battlefield franchise.The book is worth getting as a nice supplemental addition to your collection if you're looking for military inspiration.
While the artwork included is great, its obvious theres a great deal lacking. The production of the book felt rushed.
The concept art is incredibly detailed and is very well done. The amount of detail in the uniforms and characters is great. Will definitely be looking through this book whenever they announce new content
Boring after 5 min and a wast of money. Do not recommend.
I may not have bought it, but I have read an open copy elsewhere. It lacks any life and creativity, which is understandable since you shouldn't deviate from history... Oh, wait. Besides that, why buy sketches when you can buy actual the history that inspired the drawings? Such as actual historical accounts, photos, journals etc. Or looking at more fantastical art books, like GoW, ME:A, Spider-Man, etc.
