When I saw that this book was available I immediately thought of my brother-in-law who had a birthday coming up. After thinking about golf balls, another shirt, or a gift card, I decided that this book would do the trick: be something he could enjoy! He did! He is!According to his wife--my sister Julie--he is impressed with the book, the quality of the art and the information and really enjoying it. "He loves it!" my sister said, and she meant it.Is there a sequel, because he's going to have another birthday next year, God willing.
I bought this for my father for his birthday. The book is very nice and the pictures are awesome. If you live in Alabama and are interested in the Civil War, this is the book you need. The stories are good.

Great information and photographic record of the men of Alabama. I would recommend this for every first class Civil War Library.
This is a hefty tome, filled with photographs of a variety of soldiers and statesmen who served Alabama and the Confederacy during the War Between the States. Each image is accompanied by a biographical sketch placing the subject in the context of the War. My sole reservation is that the book does not include photographs and biographies of some of the women who also served during this period, such as Octavia Walton Le Vert, a writer of international reknown whose salon in Mobile attracted every prominent visitor to that city; Emma Sansom, who guided Nathan Bedford Forrest to a ford over Black Creek so that he could continue his pursuit of Streight's Raiders; and Virginia Clay-Clopton, close friend of the Davises, whose husband, Senator Clay, was imprisoned with Jefferson Davis at Fortress Monroe after the War. Perhaps these women will find a place in a revised edition of this otherwise very fine book.
