We purchased this book for our son's birthday. As he is not able to read by himself yet we are reading it aloud to him. He loves it & I am sure that once he can read for himself this will be one of the books that he reads regularly.The book is colorful, well written & engages the Young Detective's mind. Teaches the child to be more observant of his surroundings. Not suggesting that there are criminals on every corner but we all need to be observant as we go through life.I had not read the dimensions of the book when I ordered so was actually expecting something bigger. However the size of this book is actually a plus as it is easy to carry around. Inside it is spiral bound which means the pages stay open easily - no frustrations over the page you are ready flipping over.
It provided me new information for an upcoming book. I would recommend it to authors writing mystery/thriller novels.
Doesn't contain new technologies that might make a detective's job easier. But still gives good insight into what someone thinking of becoming a detective may face.
Child loved this, fun book
Enjoyed these Usborne books as a grade schoooler. Bought it a nastalgic trip, and this copy was a decent, completely readable copy. Would obsess over again.
My daughter loves this book. It has everything you could possibly think of to help young detectives get started. It is quite comical with lots of pictures and diagrams and not too wordy for youngsters. Definitely recommend.
While searching for an old photo / letter from a long time ago, I went through some old stuff that I had stored at a desk. I hadn't used the desk regularly in a long time and there was a ton of stuff I didn't realize was there.Among the things was an OLD copy of the Detective's Handbook (printed 1979) that my parents had gotten me. In fact, if I look further, I probably have copies of the three individual books that comprise the Detective's Handbook.Looks over the Detective's Handbook, I was reminded at how fun it was to read the book as a child. I remembered many parts of the book including checking out old paintings, doing night work, among many other things.In thinking back to my childhood, it is not a surprise that many of the books I read were detective / mystery oriented: Encyclopedia Brown, Hawkeye Collins and the Hardy Boys.I am glad this book still being published years after I read it. It's a classic to me and I feel it teaches kids practical and analytical skills that will help them in the future.
